CherryTree Has Go-Ahead from Paramount for Borg Fusion Cube PC

The new PC design is modeled after a combination of the Borg Fusion Cube of Star Trek Armada II and a supercomputer from the 80’s called the Connection Machine 2.

We had been toying with the idea of making a Borg Fusion Cube PC for years now. However, the rights for the design were a bit tricky to pin down: was it with Paramount, tying into the Borg lore of the Star Trek universe - or was it with Activision, the publisher of Star Trek Armada II? We decided to finally dive in head-first and create a prototype to pitch to Paramount and see if we could do something this time around.

After weeks of racking the CherryTree hive mind to get everything right, for both beauty and functionality, we pitched the idea to Paramount. On March 2, 2023 we got the go-ahead from them saying that "there are no rights issues, so you can proceed with the Borg fusion cube design," and completed the first prototype on the same day. With rights cleared, product having undergone the submission and approval process, we're very happy to announce that the Borg Fusion Cube PC will be available soon. More details to come, stay tuned!

Borg Fusion Cube

The Borg fusion cube was a starship featured in Star Trek Armada II, which was operated by the Borg Collective. These kinds of Borg cubes were set apart from regular ones, due to their being made by fusing together eight (8) Borg Cubes.

Connection Machine 2 (CM-2)

The Connection Machine 2 (CM-2) was a member of a series of supercomputers in the 1980's. While these machines were originally intended for applications in artificial intelligence (AI) and symbolic processing, they later found greater success in the field of computational science.
