On this very day in 1966, Star Trek episode 1 The Man Trap aired. I am pretty sure that nobody working on that show, on that episode, had any idea what Star Trek would become, what it would mean to millions and millions of people around the globe. It’s now 60 years since that episode aired and over those years it grew into one of the most beloved TV and Movie franchises on the planet. But what does it mean to me…to us…to CherryTree as a company?

I was born in 1973 in Vienna, Austria. Back then we had 2 TV channels and one of them played the occasional Star Trek episode. Being a nerdy kid from early on, I always liked it but my break into it definitely came with The Next Generation. I was old enough to understand what’s going on and to appreciate it. But what got me really into it was Deep Space Nine! It’s my all-time favorite. 

As it turned out, Star Trek was always a part of my life. You might say almost to a cosmic degree. Over the course of my career, I was lucky, and sometimes not so lucky, to meet a lot of people that worked on Star Trek. In 2005 I met my wife through a mutual friend who worked at Star Trek at a Star Trek Convention in Germany. We moved to the US in 2009 and rented our first house from a friend who worked on Star Trek. Unfortunately we had a falling out and sadly that friendship went its course. This took a toll on both of us and it got actually so bad that we couldn’t even watch Star Trek anymore because it reminded us of what happened. 

In 2012 we got a new client and when I got the first check from him, I did what I always did back then: I googled the name. And again it was someone who worked on Star Trek. This time the Abrams movies, but Trek nevertheless. As you can see, Trek came around again. But this time I fully embraced it. 

This client and I became friends over the years and he helped me get CherryTree off the ground and to get our first contract with CBS. In 2017 we presented our first PCs at STLV and we’ve been making Star Trek products ever since. 

For us, Star Trek has become such an integral part of our lives, that we simply could not afford to ignore it. Some things are coincidental but when the same thing keeps repeating, it becomes a pattern.

We are eternally grateful to be a part of all of this for 10 years now and we are hoping to be around for many more anniversaries.
